What is SG Alerts?
Have you experienced MRT breakdown in Singapore? This service sends you an alert when things like that happen. You don't have to be at MRT stations to find out MRT stops again.
What is Push Alert?
Push Alert is an HTML technology that allows browsers to receive alerts without opening the webpage. Information will be pushed by the server to the browser which then shows to the user.
It saves battery and bandwidth of the device because the browser needs not to check with the server regularly.
Why do I have to sign up?
Although it can save your bandwidth, push alert requires a lot of network resources of the server. It tries to send alerts to your device even if it has been shut down. Therefore, registration is neccessary to manage the devices which are receiving push alerts.
But I don't want to sign up...
Definitely. Just keep the webpage open, it will regularly check our server for the latest alerts.
Can I delete my account if I don't want to use this service anymore?
Sure. We hate those services where accounts cannot be deleted too.
What will happen to my paid subscription if I delete my account? Will I get a refund?
You will need to request for cancellation of your subscription before you delete your account. Otherwise all balance will be forfeited.
Refunds will be performed per transaction due to technical reasons. However, an application fee of S$0.5 included in every transaction will be non-refundable. This is charged by Stripe, our payment processing agent.
For example, you signed up a 12-month basic plan in January for S$10, and upgraded to a premium account in March for S$7 after redeeming 3 months refer awards. In this case, a refund of S$4 - S$0.5 = S$3.5 will be done to your first transaction when you cancel your subscription in June, and S$3 - S$0.5 = S$2.5 for the second transaction.
Refund will be processed within 7 days after your request. A confirmation email will be sent to you once we have processed your request.
What information will I have to give if I sign up?
Only your email. And email verification is needed so that your email address will not be used by others.
Do you keep track of me?
Yes and No. A unique identification number of your device will be recorded so that push alerts can be sent to that device. The software and the platform which you use to receive the alerts will also be sent to the server for security reasons.
However, all these information will be deleted once you log out. The only thing stored on the server is your email address, which will also be deleted when you delete your account.
Any other information do you collect?
We will save your password after encryption. We may also save the last 4 digits and the expire date of your credit card if you want us to save your card for subscription auto-renewal.
Do you save my credit card number then?
No. We use Stripe as our payment service. Your card information is kept within their infrastructure and will not be sent to our server at all. We only save the last 4 digits and the expire date of your card.
You may even opt-out of subscription auto-renewal so that your credit card information will not be kept by anyone.
Is my data safe?
Your password is encrypted before being saved on our server. But it's adviced that you use a unique password for each website you sign up, not only for SG Alerts.
What alerts will I receive after sign up?
Currently this service supports alerts on MRT breaks down/slows down; bus skips bus stops/changes operation hours; accidents/heavy traffic on the roads; bad weather; haze; MAS Investor alert; etc.
Information will be regularly updated and more services will be gradually added.
Where does the information come from?
Information is taken from the official Twitter accounts of respective service providers, e.g. @NEAsg, @SMRT_Singapore.
What is the promotional information?
Promotional information from selected sponsors may be sent at certain time.
All information is carefully monitored to make sure only helpful information will be sent. The frequency of sending promotional information is also limited so that it won't cause any inconvenience.
Do I need to install anything?
This is a web-based service. All you need is a Push-supported modern browser which you are probably already using. Google Chrome or Safari on Mac will be great.
Due to Apple's policy, push alert by browsers is not allowed on iOS. Therefore, unfortunately, you'll not be able to receive alerts on iOS currently. An iOS app is being developed and will be available soon.
